Greetings fellow mariners. I was at the Southmpton Boatshow a few days ago - if you have not been, consider adding it to your to do list for next year, well worth the visit.
There were the usual boats, engines, electronics and ships husbandry wares on display. In addition, I came across the following two stands and from an instructors perspective, thought it was a great idea, particularly for those that go to the effort of doing a sailing or powerboat course (at any level), but do not have easy access to a boat. OR... for those that are considering buying a boat but are not so sure about all the associated costs. Those of us owning a boat know that buying a boat, keeping it in a marina, insurance, servicing, repair and replacing parts all cost money (and sometimes lots of it!) then there is the time doing the cleaning and husbandry. All those costs can mount up and make ownership a little more daunting than perhaps you first thought.
How about the following as a possible alternative? powerboat club uk and freedom boat club
Both have an initial joining fee then a monthly membership fee (much like a gym membership - but no gym!). Even if you have no experience or qualifications, they will train and set you up and give you guidance. I have no affiliation to either, but having spent time discussing pros and cons with them, my conclusion is that both offer a great service, their vessels look great and the service on offer is in my opinion a worthwhile consideration.
Have a great day and whatever you are doing - stay safe.
