Websites for Mariners - These are a few examples of websites you may find useful in enhancing your knowledge base. There are many more out there, consider this a start.

Animated Knots

There are many animated knot sites out there. Animated knots by Grog is the web’s premiere site for learning how to tie knots of any kind. Highly recommended - also available as an app.

Bristol tides

Quick look up Bristol tide graph -  Not UKHO accurate, but good enough for a quick ‘can I do it on this tide?’ idea. 

Buoyage link

The IALA Buoyage system was introduced in 1977 and Trinity House is responsible for them, this is a link to their website

Useful tool for helping with speed time distance calculations and passage planning. Select NM and Knots for chartwork 

Sun Rise/Set times Sunrise and sunset times - Any year any date 

Theory Quiz

A Skippers online test to see where you are with your theory. They also offer online Day Skipper and Yachtmaster courses. 

Tides Chart

A look ahead for UK locations. includes water temperature, best times for fishing and a weather forecast. It also has some useful tidal additional information.

It’s not as accurate as UKHO but nevertheless less a useful site and app for tidal information.

A good read looking at clouds and learning predict the looming weather.
