Well......

How did you get on?

A tidal stream atlas provides information on the timing and strength of tidal currents in specific areas. It includes tidal stream diagrams, which illustrate the direction and rate of tidal currents at different times during the tidal cycle. This information is crucial for planning a safe and efficient passage, as tidal currents can significantly affect a vessel's speed and course over the ground.

By consulting a tidal stream atlas, a skipper can determine the expected direction and strength of tidal currents at various times, helping them plan their departure, arrival, and navigation during their voyage. It enables skippers to take advantage of favourable currents, avoid adverse conditions, and make informed decisions regarding their route and timing.

Understanding tidal currents and utilising a tidal stream atlas is an essential skill for skippers.

The important point I was thinking about is what is the tidal stream atlas reference port?

In this example the reference port is Devonport.

This one is Dover. Always best to check.
